Generate IY Entries

If you would like to see the journal entry details that Inter-Entity Transactions is going to add to a journal entry prior to posting the batch, you can use the "Generate IET Entries" option in the IET Transactions menu.

When to use

This function inserts the Inter-Entity entries, but does not post. It generate entries into unposted Ready-To-Post G/L batches the same way as the Inter-Entity posting routine when a G/L batch is posted. You can see the triggers entries, balancing entries, and reversals too without having to post the batch.

If Inter-Entity Transactions need to be viewed and descriptions and / or references changed prior to posting, use the IY Transactions / Generate IY entries prior to posting in the General Ledger.

This is an excellent way to test your linked accounts and routes without actually posting batches when you first set up your Inter-Entity module.

How to use

The required GL Batches must be made "Ready to Post

Note: . If you do not make the required GL Batches ready to post, then "Generate IET Entries" will not show any "available" GL Batches in the From and To G/L Batch finders.

To generate the entries, select the batch or range of batches to insert entries into.

  • Key the required GL Batch number(s) into the From and To G/L Batch finders

  • Click Process

  • You get the completed processing message, but no IET journal details will be added to the GL Journal.

Generate IET Entries adds all IET related journal detail entries to the selected GL Batches, but leaves the batches un-posted for validation and subsequent posting.

Posting the batch

If you don't amend the IET setup, you do not need to remove the IET added journal details to post the batch.

If you amend some of the IET setup and / or the resulting G/L Batch, you need to remove the IET added journal details before posting the batch.

IET will not add (more) entries to an GL Batch if summing the journal details by entity results in a balanced GL Batch by entity (which is what "Generate IET Entries" will do when run on a "Ready to Post" GL Batch).

Note: Generate IY entries does not create batches in on-line target databases and it does not create export files for off-line/remote databases. This is left to the posting routine for online processing and the posting and periodic processing routines for off-line / remote processing.
