Configuring DML with SharePoint Online

Overview

To configure SharePoint for Office 365 integration with Document Management Link, you need to use the Interactive method as Microsoft has retired support for Basic Authentication in Office 365.

  • Leave the SharePoint details blank in the tray

  • DML will prompt the users for details in a browser.

Configure Tray For SharePoint

  • Leave SharePoint details blank if using Office 365.

  • DML will prompt the user to login to SharePoint Online in a browser

  • The user will be prompted to enter their logon details and the 2nd factor authentication when they use DML.

  • Details are saved in the user's windows profile.

Note: This works whether you use multi-factor authentication or not.

Troubleshooting Tips

Tip:

If the login window to login to SharePoint is blank, it is generally a browser issue.

You need to check the Internet security settings in the browser:

  • The internet options security zone was set to High. Setting it to medium-high resolved the issue.

  • In browser settings -> Internal options -> Security -> Internet and Trusted site -> Custom level -> User Authentication -> Check whether the following option has been selected, you could change it to other option according to your need.

Note:

The credentials are remembered until they expire or you clear the cookies in Control Panel> Internet.

Basic Authentication

The option to Create an App password is not available anymore for SharePoint Online as Microsoft has retired support for Basic Authentication for SharePoint Online integration in April 2026.
